This two day workshop will teach students how to use a colour wheel, colour relationships, how colours interact with each other, temperature, colour mixing, using colour and temperature in perspective, creating vibrant artwork by selecting good colour choices, colours of light, shadows, reflected highlights and much more.
It doesn't matter what medium you work with I will cover them all.

Keys To Successful Painting
This workshop is designed for ALL MEDIUMS. No matter if you are a watercolourist, oil painter, acrylic painter, pastellist or other this workshop is for you.
In this full day workshop you will learn about the many aspects that are required to produce good art. I will take you from the initial concept of planning to Fibonacci's golden mean, from texture and brushstrokes to value and tone. We will cover topics such as the importance of lost and found edges and the transition of colour, the colour of light and shadows, there will be perspective and horizon lines, placing people in your paintings, angles and working
plein air and much, much more.
If you want to improve your painting skills do not miss this workshop.

Dramatic Skies Using Pastels
his one day workshop will teach students how to apply pastel without creating "mud" especially when using complimentary colours. Learn about sky colours the shapes of clouds and much more.

8TH ANNUAL PAINTING RETREAT
TASMANIA
Landsborough Art Studio are very excited to be holding our 8th Annual Painting Retreat in 2024 - dates are TBA 10 days with an optional 3 days / 2 nights additional in Hobart on the beautiful and picturesque Island of TASMANIA.
This Art Tour is hosted for artists by artist and tutor Karen King.
Do you want 11 or 14 days to immerse yourself in your art and discover wondrous Tasmania at the same time? Do you want to learn painting en Plein Air, sketch booking, painting landscapes, urban sketching painting and much more whilst exploring the historic and colonial past of one of the worlds most beautiful islands? This Painting Retreat workshop is shaping up to be one of the most amazing art workshops you will attend. I will be demonstrating in watercolour, pastels, pen and wash and more, however, you can paint in whatever medium you prefer.
Invitations are also extended to both artists and their partners and/or friends.
ALL LEVELS OF COMPETENCY ARE CATERED FOR
JUST A BEGINNER - no problems
Bookings are currently being taken. I have secured a PRIVATE coach for the duration of our trip and the bus will not be filled so we have plenty of room to relax. The itinerary is loosely based on a
50 /50 basis of sightseeing and painting each day so there will be much to do for everyone. We will be discovering mainly the East Coast of Tasmania working in an anticlockwise movement ending in Launceston via northern inland towns.

- 25min Harbour Cruise of Port Arthur aboard the spacious catamaran vessel Marana.
- Lunch at the elegant lavender farm at Port Arthur.
- A painting session at the iconic Bicheno blowhole on the rocky east coast.
- An optional (and free) evening Penguin spotting tour in Bicheno.
- An optional afternoon trip into the Peron Sand Dunes in the Bay of Fires area.
- Stroll through, photograph and paint the incredibly colourful Bay of Fires.
- Afternoon Devonshire Tea at the stunning Pyengana Diary property.
- An exploration of Launceston City including Cataract Gorge.
- Stop at the Melita Honey farm for Free tastings and all things honey related.
- A private tour of the 41º South Salmon Farm followed by a delicious lunch in the gardens.
- Visit Sheffield - the town of Murals.
- Spend 2 nights in beautiful Cradle Mountain. Enjoy spectacular scenery and amazing wildlife.
- A painting session in Cradle Mountain. See the Fagus trees and their lovely Autumn colours.
- A final Painting session on the banks of the Meander River in the township of Deloraine
- Enjoy additional opportunities to take in Tasmania's unique terrain.
- OPTIONAL - I will be flying to Hobart prior to the tour for an additional couple of days. My plan is to attend the Salamanca Markets on Saturday am and some Harbour sketching pm and do a Bruny Island tour prior to the official tour commencing on Monday. Anyone interested in accompanying me will be responsible for their own accommodation costs and tour expenses encountered on those 3 days.

Portrait Sketching with Charcoal
Learn how to sketch with Charcoal to achieve a realistic likeness of your OWN portrait subject or you can use one of my reference photos. You will learn how to use dramatic lights and darks and a full range of tonal variances in between to create depth and form. You will be shown how to use your touchon / Paper stump and knead-able eraser to create highlights and blending techniques. From here you will be well equipped to take your sketches to the next level - adding colour.
